Job Description:
Major Contracting Group, a leading civil contractor in the Detroit area, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Safety Manager to join our team.
As the Safety Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and implementing comprehensive safety programs to ensure the well-being of our employees, subcontractors, and the general public on our construction sites.
Your expertise will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.
Responsibilities:
Safety Program Development and Implementation:
Develop, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive safety programs and policies that comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry best practices.
Conduct thorough hazard assessments and risk analyses to identify potential safety hazards and develop effective control measures.
Establish safety procedures, guidelines, and protocols to ensure compliance and promote a safety-first culture among employees and subcontractors.
Training and Education:
Provide safety training and education programs for employees, subcontractors, and site visitors to increase safety awareness and promote safe work practices.
Conduct regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions to address specific safety topics and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and implement improvements as needed.
Safety Inspections and Audits:
Perform regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, analyzing root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, and corrective actions taken.
Regulatory Compliance:
Stay up to date with local, state, and federal safety regulations, ensuring the company's compliance with all applicable standards.
Prepare and submit required safety reports, permits, and documentation to regulatory agencies as necessary.
Coordinate and collaborate with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.
Safety Culture and Communication:
Foster a strong safety culture by promoting open communication, active participation, and recognition of safe behaviors.
Regularly communicate safety-related information, updates, and initiatives to all levels of the organization.
Act as a resource and point of contact for safety-related inquiries and provide guidance and support to project teams.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management, preferably in the civil construction industry.
In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards.
Strong understanding of construction site safety practices, hazard identification, and risk management.
Certification in relevant safety programs (e.
g.
, OSHA 30-hour, First Aid/CPR, etc.
).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and train employees at all levels.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify safety hazards and develop effective solutions.
Ability to conduct comprehensive incident investigations and root cause analysis.
Proficiency in using safety management software and tools.
